Account growth and pension promises need different inputs
401(k), Roth 401(k), 403(b) and IRA tools project invested balances. Their results depend on contributions and assumed returns. The pension, FERS and military tools instead apply simplified benefit formulas to salary or pay and service. An account balance cannot be compared directly with an annual pension without a separate income calculation.
Check employer matching and vesting, contribution eligibility and the tax character of withdrawals. Account tools do not enforce every statutory condition. Pension tools do not reproduce complete personnel records or every survivor election. Read the scope on the individual page before using the result.
